The arguments on the Pokemon bus go round and round, round and round....
And it looks like I'll be getting up at 7AM tomorrow morning if I want to watch the big announcement live! I think I will, since I want to see it live, and it would be nice to give up early for once. Anyone else going to get up early and watch it?

7/1/13 19:40 (UTC)Ooooor maybe they'll be announcing a reboot. I'd be down for that, as long as they fix some things
like making Gyarados and Charizard dragon types.(no subject)
7/1/13 19:46 (UTC)A reboot would be cool, but how would they handle it?

7/1/13 20:27 (UTC)That's a pretty good point. D: I've been out of the loop with most Pokemon related things, but how long has this date been set?
On the off chance they DO reboot the franchise, I feel like they'd end up restarting it in Kanto (again). The difference would be that the in-game world would already know about the existence of the 600+ Pokemon, which to me would make more sense than just "Oh look, here's a region that we have regular communications with, but it has Pokemon we've just now discovered!!" That always rubbed me the wrong way; at least in gen 2, it seemed implied that Professor Elm and Oak had known each other for a while, so why didn't we already know about Johto Pokemon back in gen 1?
I mean, I know that the franchise made things up as it went along, but that's besides the point. XD
OR maybe they'll be announcing a new game where you can explore all five regions. If they did that, I'd be so happy I'd momentarily lose control of my bladder.

8/1/13 00:21 (UTC)If the do restart in Kanto, I'd be happy with that. Kanto will always hold a special place in my heart because that's where my involvement with Pokemon started (I still have my copy of Pokemon Red too!).

I think most fans would do that, myself included. Oh man, going to all five regions in one game would be awesome! I haven't the fainest idea how you'd manage that (start over with fresh Pokemon in each region, and don't get access to your old team until you beat that region?), but that would be incredible.

8/1/13 03:03 (UTC)I'm quite fond of Kanto myself, and I have my Yellow version hidden away somewhere! Gen 2 will always have a special place in my heart, though, since Silver was the first video game I ever got to own. :D Even then, I feel like it'd be weird re-starting the franchise in any other region besides Kanto.
I think I had a conversation about doing a game where you get to visit all of the regions, and the conclusion was that it'd have to be on a home console because of all of the data. I like your idea of having to use fresh Pokemon in every new region, but man, I'd be so bummed out once I got to Unova. There were only two Pokemon in gen 5 that I actually liked (Volcarona and Hydreigon), but y'know, it's a personal problem. :P
If they did something similar to what they did in gen 2 (that is, keeping your current party), I think it'd work. The major downside to that is that your Pokemon would probably level up very, very slowly. Another option would be to increase the level cap from 100 to some other random ass number, I guess.
And if they announce an MMO, that will be the end of my social life as I currently know it.
